Pampered Pets (Groomer) Overnight Services. Is your pet used to sleeping with you at night? Ask me about overnight services! Trimming Your Pet's Nails. Nail trimming is easily done at home. It only takes a few minutes and can save you money. All you need is a good nail trimmer. Teach your pet to be relaxed and cooperative during nail trims. It is very difficult, if not impossible to trim the nails otherwise. If your pet is tense, try this: 1. Handle his paws regularly. Teach him that each time you gently handle a paw he gets a treat. If he tenses up or pulls away--no treat. Or distract him from your toe touching by giving him peanut butter to lick. Slowly require more and more handling until you are able to manipulate each toe without having him pull away. 2. When relaxed, touch the clipper to each nail. The feel of metal against his toenails will become comfortable and expected. Use treats! If you trim nails regularly, you will be able to tell if they are too long by sight. Typically, when the nail begins to curve, it is time to trim. If your pet has dark nails, clip each at the curve. Clip clear nails just before the pink quick (bloodline) inside the nail. If your pet has really long nails, trim short
amounts at a time to avoid cutting the quick. If you accidentally do
cut the quick (ouch!), stop the bleeding by applying styptic powder.
