Petcare Quarterly
February 05

Celebrating Four Years of Service! These last four years have been just wonderful, and I consider myself blessed to have partnered up with each of you in the care of your pets! The time I spend with your pets is enjoyable for both of us. From your pet's viewpoint, someone who loves them has just come over to give them undivided attention and make sure all their needs are met. My reward is the wag of a tail, the purr of a cat, or the chirp of a bird. I look forward to caring for your pets for years to come.

2005 Appreciation Discount. In celebration of my anniversary and appreciation for each one of you, I will be giving all clients $6 off your next visit.

Holiday Scheduling. Easter comes early this year (Sunday, March 27). If you are planning to travel, please let me know as soon as your dates are set.

Online Reservations. The easiest and quickest way to make reservations is by reserving online at http://icarepetcare.com/ExistingClientReserveForm.htm (add this address to your favorites). Reserving online gives me all the info I need: Departure and arrival dates and times (the times you're actually leaving your home and stepping back through the door), the dates and times of my first and last visits, and any changes that may have occurred since my last visit.

Reporting Your Return Home. All of you are so good about reporting your return home, and I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Reduced Boarding Services. My boarding has been closed off to new clients for almost two years now, and some of my current boarding clients who live within 10-15 minutes of my home will be encouraged to use my in-home services instead. Virtually all pets do wonderful in their own home where sights, sounds, and routines are familiar. Boarding services are still available for clients living further than 15 minutes away.

Pet Pictures. If your pet's picture is not on my website and you would like it to be, please email me a picture in .jpg format.

Looking for an Excellent Home! If any of my current clients or someone they can personally recommend is looking for a wonderful companion dog, please let me know by March 1st. One of my favorite dog clients, a border collie, is looking for a new home with someone who has time to give him lots of attention. This is one of the best dogs I've come to know and I love him dearly. He is between 1-2 years old, is friendly, loyal, submissive, loves to go on walks, loves to play, and is obedience trained (but still learning due to his age). His mom will be moving soon and would like him to find a good forever home with a deserving family. Henry would make a loving addition to your family. Here is his picture. (2/18/05 Update: My client may have found a home for Henry, but she won’t know for sure until May and she, understandably, doesn’t want to close it off until she is sure that Henry definitely has a home. Anyone who is still interested can let me know and I will let the client know of the interest should Henry's tentative plans not work out.)

I've Missed You. There are several pets whom I haven't had the pleasure of caring for some time now. If you've moved out of my service area, your pet has passed away, or your situation has changed, please let me know so my records can be updated and your keys returned.

In Memory. Special honor is given to the pets who have passed in the last year: Sydney, Gilman, Taffy, Bo, Tortie, Ringo, Mr. Fish, Koshka, and Dickens. Making a scrapbook, a shadow box, or a memorial donation to an animal charity is a wonderful way to remember them. Petloss.com can be a very helpful site to those who are grieving.

Keeping Pets Occupied. I love Kongs for dogs! Stuffed Kong toys are widely used and recommended for therapy and prevention of under-stimulation, boredom, separation anxiety, and other behavioral issues. They are the perfect way to keep  your dog busy and content while home alone, and can be stuffed with virtually anything that your dog likes (and that is healthy for them). Cats need toys too to keep them emotionally stimulated and physically fit. Interactive toys (such as the Crazy Circle and those made by eSmartCat.com) are wonderful for this purpose as are balls and fishing toys (string toys should only be used under supervision).

On a personal note, some of you may not recognize me anymore if you were to see me walking a dog. I am feeling more energetic and healthier since losing over 100 pounds through healthy eating and exercise. I'm looking forward to reaching and maintaining goal.
