Petcare Quarterly
Fall/Winter 2001

Happy Thanksgiving. We all have much to be thankful for, especially the unconditional love of our pets.  If you will be visiting family and friends over Thanksgiving, please be sure to reserve service early.  I currently have three in-home visits available and one opening for boarding.  Call 414-871-1851 or email sjones1@icarepetcare.com.

Giving Thanks. During this season of thankfulness, I would like to express heartfelt appreciation to each and every one of you for entrusting the care of your dogs, cats, bunnies, and birds to my service.

Collect Acorns. Is your yard full of acorns?  Collect them and donate them to the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS—4500 West Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, WI  53208).  The nuts will be stored and used to feed squirrels and other wild animals in the spring.  This is a great way for children to help animals.

Pet Focus--Manning and Klink. Manning and Klink (a terrier and a greyhound) are like a part of my family.  I am especially thankful for these fellas as they were two of my first boarders.

Pet First Aid and CPR Certification. In June, I became certified in Pet First Aid and CPR at a three-hour hands-on seminar conducted by the Red Cross at the WHS.  Topics included rescue breathing/CPR and first aid for over 20 common emergencies.  The WHS offers free classes on training and behavior.  Call ANI-MALS for a class schedule.

Closed December 1-2. I will be unavailable for service on December 1-2, 2001.

Holiday Bookings. Space fills fast during the holidays.  Be sure to book early to ensure your pet has loving care while you travel.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah & Happy Kwanzaa. I would like to wish a joyous holiday season to all my friends, furry and otherwise!

Prevent Mishaps Under the Mistletoe. Those shinning balls, tinsel, and chocolates can entice your pets like nothing else!  Last Christmas, I caught all three of my foster kittens playing amongst the branches of my Christmas tree.  Although it was very cute, I got a large piece of cardboard, wrapped it in gift paper, and positioned it around my tree to prevent any possible accidents.  Keep in mind that mistletoe, holly, poinsettias, and chocolate can all be poisonous to pets; and tinsel, angel hair, ornament hooks, and pine needs can cause choking or intestinal blockage.  Make sure your tree can’t tip over, and don’t let your pets drink water from the stand.

See You Soon! I truly miss the pets I have not seen for a while.  Please give them a scratch behind the ears for me!

Happy New Year!
