Petcare
Quarterly Spring is here. I trust all of you are enjoying the new life of spring. I picture cats eagerly looking out windows at birds, squirrels, and rabbits and dogs sniffing the new blades of grass while out on an evening stroll. Now is a good time to get those birdhouses and birdbaths ready that you've been dreaming about getting starting all winter long. We will soon have to mow the lawn for the first time. Remember to check any holes in your yards for newly born wildlife. Speaking of wildlife, a good spring chore would be to cap off your chimney to prevent them from nesting inside. With spring comes mud. Muddy paws getting you down? Several of my clients put a dishpan outside their door and have taught their dogs how to dip their paws into it to get off most of the mud. It's then just a simple matter of drying them off (remember to leave an old towel by the door). Densely seeded lawn will help that grass to grow in thick, preventing mud from even becoming an issue. Doing some fix-up work? Remember to check for broken gate locks, rotting fence wood, loose doorknobs, sticky door locks, leaky faucets, and hard-to-open or close windows and blinds. Don't forget to get the air conditioner in proper working order, change your smoke alarm batteries, and recharge the fire extinguisher. These properly maintained items help to prevent possible problems while caring for your pets. Need a vacation after the long winter? When your spring maintenance is finished, why not think about taking a vacation to reward yourself? Remember to let me know your vacation plans as early as possible, especially around the holidays, to ensure that space will be available. I am already accepting reservations in October and my openings fill up quickly. Daylight Savings Time. Remember to set your clocks ahead by one hour on Saturday night, April 3, and start working on adjusting your pet's medication schedule to reflect that change. Want to learn more about your pet? Check out cats.about.com and/or dogs.about.com. These websites contain a wealth of information. 94 happy clients and the list is growing! I just got done booking my 94th client and celebrated my third year in business on February 1st. My client list includes 95 dogs, 92 cats, 3 small birds, 3 rabbits, 1 gerbil, and 1 guinea pig, all of whom I love and have a special place in my heart for. It has been an honor and a privilege to care for your pets, and I look forward to caring for them for many, many years to come. I also look forward to caring for the pets of your neighbors, friends, family, and coworkers. When you refer someone to me and I make five visits to their pets, you will receive $6 off your next visit. Your referrals are always appreciated. Professional growth. I am pleased to announce that I have been appointed as the events coordinator/secretary of the newly founded Professional Pet Sitters Association of Wisconsin (PPAW), of which I am a major organizer and contributor. PPAW promotes the quality of petcare through the education and sharing of Wisconsin pet sitters and by educating the public to the benefits of stay-at-home petcare. We have meetings every other month with featured educational speakers; plan to host booths at the Wisconsin Pet Expo in Madison on May 15 and 16, at the HAWS Bark in the Park in Waukesha on May 22, and at Alverno College's Paws for a Cause on May 29; and are on a press release campaign (which recently landed me a spot on the 11:30 news on Channel 4). I will also be joining the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters so I can avail myself of their certification program and recently completed canine body language and feline geriatrics courses. With growth comes change. I
recently fine-tuned my website, policies, and rates. Be sure to check it out
at
http://www.icarepetcare.com/ServicesRatesPolicies.htm. Every attempt
will be made to keep clients at their existing rates, whenever possible. I
do ask that current clients make reservations online through my
existing client reservation form
as that is the easiest way for me to get all the information I need.
Remember, also, to call 414-871-1851 as soon as you return home from your trip so
I know your pets are back in your care and that an emergency visit will not
be needed. The welfare of your pets is very important to me. A home without pets is merely shelter. Janet Depathy, Under My Wings Pet Sitting Sue Jones, I Care Petcare Return to Newsletters introduction page for a list of other issues. |
